Allumeria Multiplayer
Steam peer-to-peer hosting for Early Access friends.
Allumeria’s co-op is online, Steam-first, and peer-to-peer. There is no dedicated-server checkbox in 0.15. That is a deliberate Early Access choice: Unobtainable Melon shipped Join Game so friends can drop into an existing single-player world without exporting files. If you came from a server-list game, adjust expectations. If you came from “can I play with my friend tonight,” you are in the right place.
Host in sixty seconds
Load your single-player world. Pause with Escape. Choose Host Multiplayer, then host via Steam. Friends right-click your Steam profile and pick Join Game. Stay in the world while they connect. Direct IP join existed in early multiplayer tests; Steam overlay is the path that matches the store page. You need the Steam client running, not a cracked shortcut.
The host’s world is the world. Guests bring their characters. Characters already keep inventory across worlds in single-player, so a friend can arrive with a Copper Pickaxe from their own map. Decide before you host whether that is allowed at your table. There is no official “reset gear on join” toggle.
What syncs today
Terrain edits, chests, and most entity state sync. You can build a hall together, fight the same night wave, and share a Forest Dungeon. Chat exists. Boss bars were patched to show correctly in co-op. Expect the usual P2P tax: the host’s upload speed is the server. If the host is on Wi-Fi across the house, guests rubber-band while mining.
Dedicated servers are planned and were called a lower priority than friend sessions. Do not wait for them to play. Do not advertise a 24/7 public shard either; this stack is not that yet.
Skins and character files
Multiplayer shipped with layered skins. Four examples ship in the box: Amber, Clay, Jasper, and Ruby. Custom skins go in /res/textures/skins/ as editable files with extra quads for detail. Everyone should install a skin before join if they care about looking distinct in a cave. Skins are cosmetic; they do not change hitboxes.
Demo worlds, Early Access, and backups
The forest-only demo and the paid Early Access build are meant to carry worlds and items forward. If you played the playtest or demo, load the same character after purchase rather than deleting folders on sight. Still copy the world directory before a major patch. Early Access 0.15 is a live clay tablet, not a frozen LTS.
Demo limitations that matter in co-op: snow biome, Snow Spirit, and extra late biomes may be missing for demo-only friends. Read demo vs full game before you schedule a snow raid. The host should be on the build you actually want to play.
Etiquette that prevents rage quits
Craft spare Flint Pickaxes and Torches using the crafting guide before you press Host. Pave a meeting room so night spawns do not eat the person who just installed the game; spawn rules are in the building guide. Put a sign (or a painted block colour) over the storage that is communal. Locked Forest Doors consume keys; do not let a guest spend the only Forest Key on a curiosity door.
Agree on boss timing. Forest Spirit despawns if players die and the fight is abandoned. The boss guide explains skull fragments and snowball rituals so nobody “just places the tophat” as a joke. If you are teaching, walk guests through getting started in a creative corner of the map, then run the Forest Dungeon walkthrough together.
Platforms and input
Co-op is Steam online. There is no split-screen local couch mode. Steam Deck as a guest works when the build runs; controller reports are mixed, so keep a keyboard nearby for the R shape menu. System notes are on system requirements.
If Join Game is greyed out, confirm the host is actually in the world with hosting enabled, both parties are friends on Steam, and family-view filters are not blocking the overlay. Restart Steam before you blame the game. When it works, it feels like opening a door, which is the point of this P2P slice.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
How do I play Allumeria with friends?
Open your world, pause, choose Host Multiplayer via Steam, and have friends use Join Game on your profile. This page is the full checklist.
Are there dedicated servers?
Not in the current Early Access client. Peer-to-peer is the supported path. Dedicated hosting is planned later.
Can demo players join a full Early Access host?
Worlds and items are designed to carry forward, but demo content is forest-only. Check demo vs full game before mixed-lobby raids.
Is there local split-screen?
No. Co-op is online through Steam. Two people on one PC need two Steam accounts and two machines.
